Question: Can I use the back button on my browser after submitting a PIREP to submit another one?

Answer: No, this may cause you to submit a duplicate PIREP by mistake. The best way to enter another PIREP is to click on the button with the "Eyeglasses" with the red "X" through it on the PIREP form that you just submitted. This will give you a new PIREP entry form to fill out.

Question: In discussing flight numbers (Flt Code), the "Help" page for the new PIREP submittal form in VAHQ says "This is your scheduled flight code for this trip. It must be in the master flight schedule." How will this interface with the flight numbers for special flights (like charters, for example) which are not scheduled hub flights?

Answer: I designed the flight assignment application so that the hub manager only has to enter the pilot's PID and the existing flight number to add a pilot flight assignment. They don't have to enter the ICAO for the origin airport, nor the destination airport. They also don't need to enter the start time and arrival time. All of this information is read by the computer from the master flight schedule. So, if you want to add a flight to a pilot's assignment list, the flight's parameters must first be entered in the master flight schedule by the hub manager. If the flight that you want to add to the pilot's assignment list does not exist in the master flight schedule, then you will get an error message. The PIREP entry form does not look up the flight code to see if it exists. But, if the PIREP flight does exist in their assignment list, then it will be automatically removed from their assignment list by the computer when they post their PIREP for it. Our hub managers will check their hub assignment boards from time to time to see if the hub pilots are doing their assigned flights. When they see that a pilot has no remaining assignments, then this means that the pilot has submitted PIREPs for them when their flights were completed.

Question:Why do we have a limit of twenty-four hours on a flight?

Answer: The reason I built this into the PIREP program is because we do not have in-flight refueling capability yet. We also do not have the capability to fly for over twenty-four hours on one tank of fuel. Some limit is also required so someone cannot post 9999999.9 hours of flying time from Sydney to Auckland.

If you are flying one of our long charter flights for double time credit and it takes you 12.5 hours, then please don't post 25.0 hours because the system will not accept it. For double hours you are supposed to post the trip twice for 12.5 hours each. Just make sure that you add a comment to the second trip saying that this is extra credit for a double time flight.

The reason for this is because we want the ACTUAL flying time posted in the PIREP (and your log book) for statistical purposes. For instance, if we wanted to compute the average time and fuel consumption it took for everyone to fly from Sydney to Auckland, then it would look odd that it took someone twice the amount of time to get there on about the same amount of fuel as anyone else. That would be a feat worth noting.
